FNG from PHX here. 1st post and not the last (if there are actually other owners that can lend a kind hand here). My friend is a High-end vintage car owner/broker, and travels the world with many contacts in Germany, France and Japan. He recently imported a very nice M16 he bought from a museum in France. It was previously used by the French Army, and was retro-fitted as a Rocket Launcher platform by them. The only way they deviated from the M16 configuration was replacing the rear armor with armor from an M3 that has the access door in the center. The engine and trans have French placards apparently indicating that they were updated by the French at some point. The front tires are Michelin XY combat tires. The tracks are OK, but not the greatest (the owner WOULD like to get a new set if anyone... ?).
My question is are there any hard & fast guidelines for a faithful resto in the engine bay??? What color should this engine and trans be? The owner thinks gray, I can see no signs of previous paint other than maybe black. Can anyone post or link pics of a great resto as a guideline. I currently have the accessories stripped off the engine to remove excess grease and paint.

http://halftrackinfo.com/index.php?topic=558.0 Here are some guidelines. Its kind of the owners choice. Some like grey and others green. I painted mine a Massey Ferguson grey. Its alittle darker than the lighter Ford grey. Hope this helps.

I know my engine was painted OD semi-gloss. But I'm reasonably certain my halftrack was rebuilt in the 50's But I went back to gray.

I got one of those french army engines still in a crate wrapped up, it was dark green

Thanks for the responses guys, I went with the Ford Gray, mostly because that was what the local parts place had. The Owner was happy with that.
