Title: Adding Vacuum Advance to the Distributor
Post by: steve1973 on February 16, 2015, 08:13:46 PM
This is an idea I had and think it will work. By using a vacuum advance from a 50's Chevy 6 cylinder engine and a little machining on the distributor housing this should work. I am interested in a rebuildable distributor to test this on. If anyone has a spare for sale I'm interested. The distributor shown is a later non-shielded distributor. What do you think?

What's the possibility of adapting an electronic ignition? I know the was at least one available for the power wagons.

I already did that. I'm using a  Pertronix 1168LS kit with a 40511 3.0 ohm coil. The coil is an oil filled coil. This last summer I found that both Don's and my coil leaked. I will be replacing mine with an epoxy filled coil when my engine is done. I will have to fine the partnumber for that. The install takes about 30 minutes and you never have to worry about points again. ;D I've been using that setup for the last two year with no problems.
