I'm short one head bolt for a White 160AXS, wanted to know if anyone has one available. Also, what do you guys use for washers underneath the head bolts? Based on the ones I took off, the dimensions don't match up to standard SAE or USS washers, that is, the originals are smaller O.D. and thicker. They also appear to be fairly soft. Thanks for the help. Dale

Some of the hardware used on the halftracks is AN hardware. AN stands for army navy standard. It is what is used on aircraft and is generally grade 5. You can tell by the markings on the head of the bolt. AN does not use markings like standard bolts in the hardware store. The markings look similar to metric bolts. I think the washers you need are AN960-816L and the bolt you need is an AN8. AN means army navy and the 8 means 8/16 or 1/2 inch diameter. The length is also in 1/16 ths. The formula for the sizes is confusing at first but once you understand it it is really simple to use. Also AN hardware comes length increments of 1/8 inch. Not 1/2 inch like the hardware store.
search Aircraft Spruce and Specialty company. You will find alot of neat stuff there. They have a lot of other unique fasteners too.
The other thing you could try is to go to your local airport and talk to the mechanic.
Good luck Henry

Try ARP bolts (www.arp-bolts.com). They should have the washers and head bolts you need.

I greatly appreciate the help you've given me. Here's what I've come up with for the head bolt: AN8-31. It is very close in grip length and overall length to the original bolt. In addition, under tension applications the recommended AN bolt torque falls within the 70-75 ft-lbs required to properly torque the cylinder head. The corresponding washer is AN960-816. Thanks again, Dale
