Title: M2A1 ammo locker lid hinge
Post by: KC on May 08, 2015, 09:17:41 PM
Hello all,
I'm getting ready to install the newly made ammo lockers in our halftrack. The large locker behind the drivers seat has a hinged top over, my question is what type of hinge? I could not find a clear image on line to determine if continuous hinges (piano) were used or standard type hinges. I have extra door hinges available, so those are an option also.
Thank you, Karl

They are not originally piano hinges, it is some kind of sheet metal rolled and cupped by a second sheet metal rolled tube. Very hard to describe. I lucked out and got some NOS ones from Rod Shaver many years ago. I don't know how they would be reproduced now.

Here's what Tim is referring to:

A one-piece open tube with a smaller tube inside, making the top nearly waterproof compared to a segmented hinge. Photo courtesy of Mike Spradlin.

I have seen this type of hinge on a lot of RV's. The only one i can find though is aluminum.
