I just picked up a french speedo on eBay for 50 bucks and it works buts has issues. Numbers are faded, looks like they where painted to the inside of the glass maybe the wife could make some decades. The guage will work but is hard to turn. Anyone have any pointers on loosing it up without taking it apart or has anyone taking one apart and can offer advice. Thanks

I have two of those speedometers and they are both hard to turn. I would like to know how to fix them also.

Din adin I tried this and it worked. I grabbed a drill and I found a square drive bit that fit the speedo and held the two tight together and ran the unit up slowly until the needle was 3/4 from pegged. Ran I like that for two minutes and she seems to run freely now. Good luck

I'm not sure if it's like the US ones but it seems to be the grease or lube that's hardened over the years. I loosened up a couple of US ones that were stuck, but at least partial disassembly was required.

The first one I had, froze up solid, it never did free up, I ended up breaking it. Had to get a new one.

Mine wouldn't work when hooked up, but when i put a drill on it, it did. I gave up and just put it in as it was to fill the dash hole, hooked up. Lo and behold after a short time it worked lol. Still works fine now. I did see the mileage was reading when the needle wasn't as weird as that sounds. I would also say hardened grease, and after a short time of driving, should free it
