Title: How many coats of paint

  Going to try and put some color on my frame in the next day or so. Was wondering how many color  coats some of you have put on.

I usually try to get a at least a couple coats of primer, and at least 3 coats of OD.

I've been using 3 coats of primer and paint.

Using Gillespie paint, I've had the best luck with one double coat of primer followed by two double coats of color.  Make sure you let the first coat flash off before applying the second.  DW

OK, so you guys talked me into the TM9 products for my M16...but, do I want to use Synthetic Enamel or Catalyzed Urethane???

Which one do we want to use?

What are the pros and cons of each?

Contact halifaxgroup here on the forum. He developed the TM9 paint, he has since sold it to Midwest military, but he is still a technical advisor.

I'm not a paint expert, But the little I know is the catalyzed paint is very durable. I also think you should be using a better level of respiratory protection using it.  You have to mix paint all the time with it, even doing small parts and touch ups. With the enamel you can get it in spray cans and quickly do the small parts and touch ups.
I am using TM9 paint and Paul has been a great help when I have questions.
