Title: Does anyone know the size and font of the odometer numbers?
Post by: Outsider on July 19, 2012, 03:26:08 PM
Does anyone know the size and font of the odometer numbers?

Getting ready to redo my speedo but the odometer and trip numbers are pretty much non-existent.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve I found a site for antique speedometers that had the actual NOS odometers and trip dials they also had the decals. I'll look it up when I get home tonight.

Steve, try this site under Stewart/Warner parts they have refurbed drums and if you keep scolling through the pages they have decals also.

Steve

I just printed the gauges on plain paper if they come out as good on decal paper as plane paper its a no brainer. Just need a source for glass
and bezel stock.

Thanks Guys

Hi all,

Can anyone provide me with the diameter of the tachometer faceplate please?

Which is the correct tachometer image on this page? I see there are two variants here. One has the numbers just around the middle circle; another has numbers both around that inner circle as well as around the outer circumference.

From what I've seen there should only be one series of numbers.  Is that correct?

The tach face plate measures 3 inches in diameter. The face on an original I have has only one set of numbers between the sets of marks. and the 3000 and 3500 are oriented opposite from the rest of the numbers. Exactly like the picture you posted of the tach on the first picture under the speedometer.

I could try to post a picture of my original tach if you think it would help.

Darryl.  Here are some pictures. This is a set of unrestored gauges that I use for reference. They are off of an early M2 halftrack. Hope this helps.

Hi Henry

Thanks for the diameter and the great pictures. That explains it for me.

What colour is the tachometer faceplate?  It looks white but I am not sure.  I am going to make up some decals and I'm thinking it might pay to have them as clear decals and then the faceplate can be painted the correct colour.

Hi Darryl,
The speedo, gauge cluster and tachometer all have a metal that is background painted silver. The voltmeter looks like the numbers are directly on the aluminum face plate I do not think that one has a painted background. it almost looks like the numbers are etched into the voltmeter face and then painted. You can use most any high quality silver spray paint in a fizz can. I think somewhere on this site there is a reference to rustoleum brand paint and I believe even the paint number.

Hi Henry

Thanks for that.  That explains thing nicely.  The printer has done them in a clear decal so the faceplate will just need to be painted that silver/aluminium colour in preparation.
