He also makes the 2 5/8 concave glass for the tach also. You can order just the glass as the bezel he has is different. According to his ebay site he has instructions on how to install the 7"bezel. I'll find out as I'm ordering a set.
Nice to know the glass and bezel is good. Thanks

Just a note here (sorry about the double post) The 2 5/8 glass is too small for the tach.
-
thanks willy
its good to know its a good fit.
i have heard the tool looks like a can opener but i have never used it.
-
i found a couple links with instructions on removing bezels. nothing on a special tool though.

I started to take the bezel off of my gauge cluster housing to clean the glass but didn't like the thought of all of those crimp marks. I took it down to a local gauge place and the guy used a special tool. He removed it for free....cleaned the glass and reinstalled the bezel. No marks.

Just ordered some of these from Hot Rod John. He is now charging $50 per set.

I've bought several of these, I've restored 2 1/2 gauge clusters so far. I'm starting on a speedometer next.

Anyone have contact info other than ebay?
Any source for the tool?

I called John @ 330-468-3027 and ordered them direct.

i bought one of these and it doesn't fit.
the glass is about 3/16" in diameter to big and the bezel ring is twice as thick and way to stiff to crimp by hand.
i was able to trim down the glass with my sander (im surprised it didn't break) and i used an old bezel ring to make it work.
im sure a gauge shop can easily trim down the glass and has the tools to crimp that stiff ring.

Talked to John when I got mine. He said the rings are stainless and impossible to crimp. He recommends using a 2 part epoxy. It took me a couple try's but came out good

I've done a couple with his glass. I was very careful when pried the old bezel off. I then straightened it out and cleaned and painted it. I did make a new gasket. I crimped it back on with soft jawed pliers. I've done 3 of them now. Works pretty good.

What did you make your gasket out of?
Michael

I used thin paper gasket material. I used a compass to draw it out. then cut it out.

Hi guys
I am looking for a source for a replacement bezel for the speedo. From what I understand in the posts here, the bezel from this source is not quite the right size:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-5-In-Stewart-Warner-Glass-Bezel-Ford-Hot-Rod-Race-SCTA-Flathead-/190705147300?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c66e99da4
I understand the glass here is correct but he is no bezels:

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to source one?
I am looking at getting some decals made for my speedo face and the odometer. Just awaiting pricing.

Darrel Is your old one rusted away? I bead blasted my old one then straightened it out, painted it and crimped it back in place

Hi Don
Unfortunately there was no bezel or glass with the speedo or the instrument cluster when I got the vehicle. I managed to pick up a bezel and glass for the cluster in The Netherlands when I was over there but am still looking to complete the speedo.
Reading further through these gauge threads i see that the one on Ebay will fit but I will need to glue it as they are apparently too hard to crimp.
Thanks

Anyone know where I can get the proper shade of grey paint for the speedo?
Thanks

Chuck if you have some color still on your face then you can take it to a paint store and they can computer match it. I kind of did mine by eye but use a vey fine metallic silver.

I got a response when I did another post instead of hijacking this one. Krylon Matte Alluminum with clear coat after decal application.
