Just a question out of curiosity was at the museum of American armor and my friend and I where looking at one of the halftrack. The side armor had several long cracks in it and a couple of smaller ones. He was told by someone that it was a sign of repro armor because the mild steel is more prone to crack and I argued the opposite thane the face harden armor was more prone to crack because of it being more rigid than mild steel. I’ve had a couple of small cracks I’ve had to weld up. What is the general consensus with you guys. Just a side thought.

Face hardened steel plate will crack faster than mild steel, but the easy way to tell would have been to do an inspection of the inside of the plate for a makers mark.

I agree with Steve. My origanal armor has cracks and I have seen others that have cracked. I have a bunch near bolt holes going out to the edge.
