Title: Hood welt protector
Post by: 8683jb on May 28, 2019, 07:53:26 PM
Before I pitched the pallet strapping that came with my tracks, I made a couple of clip-on protectors for the hood welt where the hood side armor digs in. I always had a small strip of metal handy to put under the edge of the hood so it wouldn’t chop into the welt. Maybe this will eliminate that.

Good idea. Can you tell me where you obtained the hood welt?
Thanks

Thank you guys!

Philip:
Steve sells the kits on ebay

Jon thank you for the link to Steve's sale site and for your offer.

The advertised welt appears to be some sort of black plastic material(like the one from MV Spares for the jeep) whereas your one and the original welt appears to be canvas.

Is this me needing my cataracts done or is there a difference?

Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with your eyeballs. mfrance is right about the material. It’s an asphalt-covered material similar to the loom used for wiring and over some of the steel tubing, except that it’s creased so it lays flat between the rivets. I got this spare kit from Steve, which he says is the correct type for the half track. I’ve seen early pictures of half tracks with this type of welt. I got it for when the stuff that’s on there now needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the clarification. I have had an email  discussion with Darcy Miller of MV Spares who has assured me that the black one he sells is correct for the jeep and i've not been able to understand why until now. Presumably was the same for the halftrack.     Is there a source for the canvas non black welt?
Thanks

Actually I have just found the answer to my own question. Mid West Military sells the canvas welt.
