Welcome to the site! There are Lots of guys here that are more than happy to answer all your questions. Don't hesitate to ask as we can save you a lot of problems we encountered. You won't have to reinvent the wheel so to speak!
The fact your Track has the original cab forward armor, excellent bumper, bulkheads, original floor and track armor is HUGE!! The Tach, Speedometer, and gauge cluster are invaluable!! There are people that can restore them to like NEW in appearance and function!! The more complete your project is at the beginnings saves you tremendous amounts of money and time.
Take your time and do it right and when finished you will have an incredible Vehicle!

The rear bed shows that it is still an M3 and was not converted to a M3A1.

Maybe the bed was from another truck? Or the windshield. Because the windshield shows that it was an A1.

I don't know the answer to that but the front floor plate in the bed is for the pedestal mount, not the ring mount.

Yeah it could be indeed but I'm probably going to rebuild it into a m3a1
you can follow the progress on my facebook page!

So this is the work I did in the past couple of months, the front is apart now and the front section of the chassis has been sandblasted and a rusted place in the frame has been replaced. It has been primed and painted in OD. The engine that was in the halftrack was bored .60 over so is was at the end or it needed to be sleeved. I found 2 used engine blocks that are in overall good condition I took one apart and it is now in the machine shop to be bored to .40 and have the crank grinded. The transfer case and transmission are torn apart to, I just need to check what bearings I need because some of them just had bearing balls missing. The tooth of them are all in excellent condition! Next job is to take the rear bed of and begin on the frame and drivetrain. I couldn't do it all at once because of the lack of space back then. The rear bed isn't in the best condition but I got a rear bed so I'm happy :D also I found the holes for the m3 and m3a1 version I think? if someone can confirm this? overall good progress and I keep going on! ;D ;D ;D

So the rear bed is going to be a lot of work and it was to get if of but managed to save almost every bolt just had to cut a couple because they had them welded. the rear bed is going to be a lot of work but first I will take the tracks of and remove everything of the rear frame. You could see it was used on a beach of all the sand that was everywhere ;D I want to have everything cleaned on the frame before my engine comes back. I don't want to rebuild it in dirt :-\ All the track armoured plates except for 2 are cracked and bend so I'll probably replace all because it won't be straight to start. About the radio boxes I took some pictures but they cut them because they didn't need them. I'll make some close up photo's of the boxes in the next post.
and I gave her a name I saw it on a original picture of a halftrack : Cool Cat
-
Keep it up Tuur! Im sure you can see how much work is before you but it is really worth while in the end.
Jon

Cool Cat... I like it.
Was it near salt water to cause all the rust? I have parts of 3 and none were near that bad.
-
I like the name! Your bed does look a little bit corroded, but at least you have something. Many of us don't even have that much of a bed!

The tracks are of, and man why are they so heavy ;D it was hard work to all alone so I got some help from my girlfriend with the second track :D after that the boogie assembly came of and then the rear axle. Some of the bolts had to be cut they wouldn’t budge even when cherry red. some good progress for now. I’ll strip everything of and sandblast it in the next coming weeks.
Heavy work those tracks :P :P

it was used on a beach indeed, when cleaning it I came across half of the beach ;D

So the frame on the rear is all apart, only thing left is to grind of the extra's they put on and then the rest will come of to.
I will sandblast it this week and then get a first layer of paint on it.
the idler shafts came of pretty easily.
I also got the call that the engine is ready! I will pick it up after I'm ready with the blasting and then I'll be putting the engine back together myself.
The block has been bored to 0,40 and the crank has been grinded.
-
Engine assembly and some good tunes on the radio......the makings of a great day in the shop!!!!
Nice job!!!
One bite at a time!!!

Hey I tough I've replied on this I did get some pictures but the wiring was all cut out only the boxes where still in their place i think they didn't tought they where usefull in it's postwar life.
-
So did some work again, Since the last time I posted I've done a lot of cleaning an paiting and not much of assembly.
I've moved and so did the halftrack to a new storage so that took up a lot of time and still not everything is there.
Butt... the engine ran and it ran sweet! I've then cleaned it and painted it and now it is back in the frame!
The rear axle housing is back in the frame and so is the bogie frame!
I've now moved on to a lot of thing, I'm looking into the wiring and looking for bearings for the transfercase and transmission.
I've also started to clean the firewall so I can start to assemble the cab and everything around it.
That's all for now ;D

Some sandblasting help from the girlfriend ;D ;D ;D

And in she goes,
I'm still waiting for the frame sides but when they come I can lift up the front of the engine a bit and get the bolts in.
The oilfilter needs a paint still, Should it be red or engine colour?
-
I’m very envious of your frame, it looks so good.

A lot of work done!!!
