I have an old tach that I would like to restore, Not sure how to get it apart.
-
Not sure if this is the "official" way, but it worked for me:
I placed two blocks of 2x4s under the two flanges that stick out from the sides (where it bolts to the dash) with the tach upside down. I then used a broad flat head screwdriver along the edge of the face plate and tapped it with a hammer, alternating side to side. Face plate came right out. Reinstalled with the face plate upside down on a thick piece of flat rubber on a lead ingot. Tapped the rear of the case into place.

Thanks for the info, I have it apart and it is a mess the glass is not flat their is a curve to it. Is there some place I can find the glass and faceplate. Also the needle is not attached to the metal unit. Do you know how they attach?

Try here for the glass. I haven't bought anything but I've seen this link listed before.

The needle that moves around the faceplate has seperated from the metal housing located behind the faceplate. There is a thin, small, short, shaft attached to the needle. How is this attached to the housing that attaches to the cable out the back of the tach?

I’m trying to remember the tach glass measurement. This one is 3 27/64

Hope this might help

Someone who knows a lot more than me concerning the tach informed me that the needle axle in my tach is broken. So it looks like I need to replace the whole mechanism. Are these still available?
