Great looking track and that engine wow...where did you get engine like that? That would look good sitting in clerance...

here is a pic of the engine i just picked up. i wonder why they didnt upgrade these to the bigger oil filter.

thats amazing :)

I was trying to buy this last fall, and i know it was for sale for a year before that. Owner kept changing his mind. Finally he contacted me a few weeks ago asking if i was still interested. In the end i got it and the engine for 9gs

now you are going to have to name your halftrack collene ;D it looks like there is a picture of collene further back on the halftrack.
does it still have the data plate? it looks like you may have an m2 halftrack that was never converted to an A1. when they converted them they modified the front canvas attachment strip that runs the length of the top section of windshield armor. also if it was converted they would stamp the hood number in the right side bogie wheel cast iron mount. what kind of restoration are you going to do?
-
LOL, omg the pressure. I just got it friday, and havnt really had to much time to play. So far there was a data plate, but no serial number, but i think ord num was 533. Serial number on frame was 272422, so i assume white? Under the collene, i can see a faint "debbie" The number on the hood mystifies me, i havnt seen anything with ord number starting with 50. I will look for stamp on boogie mount today and report back. I hate to say, but im totally illiterate on these,so a ton of questions comming!

Hey Steve, ok, looked at it. It does have the full length strip across top of windshield, and on the back side of the bogie cast iron mount has the number 5619 stamped 3 times close to each other.
On the data tag, it has 533 stamped for the ordinance number, but cant read serial number, so maybe 533 was ord num when it was m2, and 5619 after refit? or data tag is wrong for mine?

the data plate will tell you if its an m2 or an m2a1. does it say "was m2" on top like this one? this is the most important as it will what model you will be building.

if you post all your information in the G database those guys can give you the year and make.

Hey Steve, data plate only says US Army ordinance along the top, no mention of m2 or m2a1. The rest is the same though with speed/rpm etc. Cannot read serial number, ord number is 533

thats interesting.
i have never seen a data plate that didn't list the model. can you post a pic?
-
I should also point out it has the early fender lights, and it looks like the fenders have never been off
-
i have never seen one like that.
you could build it as an m2 or an m2a1. the skate rails are about impossible to find for the m2 so most go with the m2a1 that uses a perimeter rail and pulpit.
-
I've only seen one plate like that and it was on an M16A1. It was a Diamond T per the serial number but they stamped WHITE on the plate.
-
ya know i based my guess on the m2 model from where your frame number lands in the data base but that may not be accurate. the m2 model halftracks have a frame that is about 10 inches shorter than the m3/m16 models. which one do you have?
here are pics of the two frames. notice the m3/m16 model (the painted one) frame runs past the rear of the tracks about 10 inches and the rear idler brace mounts to the side of the frame instead of to the rear like the m2

You guys are great! I was wondering how to tell the difference between m2 and m3 . It is defiantly an m2, the track is flush with the rear frame
-
more pics,, and your photos dont show up on my computer?? jc
-
Well I can almost say im finally ready to close the book on this restoration. It has been a long ride on a roller coaster. It turns out after removing all the rear after war crap this was an M4A1.
So with alot of help from alot of you, here is the result

Andy.
Just a heads up on a great track. I noticed across the rear armor the five footman loops on a horizontal line level with the top of the mine racks should all be on the inside of the vehicle. These were used to hold four 30cal ammo cans across the rear of the crew cmpt.

LOL, i noticed after that i put a few loops backwards. The problem is when comparing half track pictures online, id sat 50% are one way, 50 the other. I just gave up and stuck them outside to hang more stuff
