Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my first venture into armor. This M2A1 comes with the perimeter armor (not fitted) but missing the lower and rear side armor as well as doors and windscreen armor, so if anyone has any leads on these parts please let me know.
I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for this forum once my HT with it's boxes of loose parts finally arrive and I've had chance to sort through what I have and what I still need to complete.

thats a great start. having that rear bed is going to save you alot of time/money.
-
Thanks for the comments.
Aside from the HT vendors offering reproduction parts, where are the best places to search for my missing armor pieces ?
Thanks..............Phil.
-
Good start. Good luck. If you can get diagrams of the armor you should be able to find a place to water jet or laser cut it for you.
-
finding original rear armor is hard. you will find pieces once in a while but if you don't want to wait for 20 years then repo is the way to go.
like dinadin said, laser or water jet gives you the right look on the edges. another tip is, if you are going to stamp the part number in the armor like the original armor had don't do it to neatly = thats a dead giveaway for for repo. i have some armor where the part number is at an angle almost running off the piece.
this site has some good pics of the m2A1 ..... does anyone know where this halftrack is located?

Steve,
That may be located in CT at the military museum of southern new england. It has been painted since those pictures have been taken.
-
do they have more than one halftrack?
the one at military museum of southern new england has hood number 407562
the one in the previous link has hood number 647281
maybe going by the hood number isn't a accurate though
http://www.usmilitarymuseum.org/videotour.php
the video here shows the hood number

i contacted them, they painted it and changed the hood number.

Progress is slower than I'd hoped but getting there.

Looks like the next big challenge is getting it titled !

Looking good there. Looks like Bills place in the first pictures?
-
I bought it from Bill so seems likely. Just wish I had that amount of space to give it a run but for now up and down the drive will have to do as I've already had a visit from the sub division association reacting to neighbor complaints that I'll damage the roads with the tracks......... ::). Probably the same neighbor that called the police to report someone driving through the sub-division with a machine gun on a Jeep (it's a 30 cal gas gun and it was covered at the time, as I was returning from a living history event !). Starting to wish I'd given more thought to living further out, away from the suburbs............. ::)
-
great work!!
im glad i dont have neighbors like that.
-
Phil,
You can always haul it out to my place to take it out for a spin.
Steve

Phil looking really good. I'm glad I live out where I do, neighbor hood associations can be a pain in the a$$. If we have to move our crawler tractors we just rattle them on down the road, so rubber tracks are no issue ;D

HT is finally titled and registered so couldn't resist taking a 4 mile trip (each way) to the local Friday night car show and enjoyed every second of the drive.........lots of thumbs ups and appreciation from other drivers, although couldn't see the faces of the ones I was holding up !
My first outing photo.............

Still lots to do but I feel much more motivated now I can at least drive it...........couldn't resist putting a few spare magnetic stars for 'bling' (they come off easily for the final paint job) and stealing a few bags and ammo cans for it's first road trip, ussually found hanging from the Jeep !
-
Nice to see her out and about.

Thanks Steve, I really appreciate all the advice and access to parts you've provided to get me this far.
Not to mention the motivational power of seeing your M3 with the attention to detail when I visit your place..........reminds me what can be achieved with time and patience.
Phil.

Sure looks good, I hope I can get mine titled so I can go driving. Greg

Looking really good Phil ;) I haven't had much time this summer to work on mine. To much home work. I'm looking forward to getting parts back on.

Looks great - you have come a long way in the last year. Wish I could say the same about mine. Your picture provides good motivation to keep the rest of us plugging along on our restorations!
