you have alot of the important stuff there. most of us here get stuck with badly beaten and farm used halftracks that are missing all the rear armor.

thanks for posting.

the shield is not home, and the left side has been an impact

while the shield is a remake of the standard white M2

M2 is a remake a dream will become reality

Nice project you have! It has a lot of original armor that we in the states just don't find any more. One thing I notice is that it hls whats left of full length mine racks and I think a rear door. I also see a gun pedestal near the front sticking up. Are you sure it is a M2? It looks like a M3 halftrack.

Yeah, it looks like an M3.  Are those rifle racks standing up there also?

I have to agree with others, it cant be an m2 unless side armor has been replaced as i have never seen any m2 without ammo-equipt locker side doors unless im missing the door lines

Hi

Sorry to upset you,
but it is an M2 whose rear shields were replaced and a door was put

Here is a picture showing a modified M2 with shields, it was serving in the French police.
and we can clearly see the shields without side doors and rear door added   ;)

I stand corrected.  From the angle of the first pictures we could not see the rear of the track.  It does look like an M3 from the front.

Hi Dinadin

no problems, it is true that the photos could suggest a M3   ;)

Rear bumpers are from M4 mortar carrier.
Title: Re: M2 in the Belgium

Hi

the rear bumper for M4!??
What is the difference compared to M2?
Title: Re: M2 in the Belgium
Post by: col.halftrack on February 15, 2013, 10:15:10 AM
The M4 bumpers top treadplate is not as long as the bumperette. On a M2 the top treadplate has accommodations for the 30 cal tripod brackets and is the same length as the bumperette. The M4 top treadplate was shorter to allow for the stowage of the mortar baseplate and on early models the 50 cal tripod mounted between the bumpers as well.

What is the serial# stamped on the frame, something like 27xxxx? Maybe it was an M4A1. I've seen those armor mods on other French Army halftracks, there is even a nice one in a musuem somewhere in France iirc.
Title: Re: M2 in the Belgium
Post by: prestone on February 16, 2013, 01:36:44 AM

Its serial number is M2 10100 , and it was not retyping

In the restoration project it is planned to make a n M2A1 seen the difficulty of finding a ring for M2.

Interesting. Maybe they used the M4 bumpers since they were putting in a rear door. Best of luck with the restoration I'm sure you will have a lot of fun!

Maybe the halftrack was damaged along with others and they used mix-matched parts to get it back in action again. Just a thought.

question:

from the chassis number, its a M2, I would like to restore M2A1 ok.

you will he keep his headlights or hood attached in Saon then have them back on fenders?

when M2 was transformed from a disassembly of the ring, nothing else changed?

if anyone has any photos of this transformation, I am interested

M15A1 to unload its storage space

subsequently it will restore when the plans will be found for the turret parts manufacturing

it would be unfortunate to do it again

Not sure of years of manufacture, but the top one is an all rubber tank. Nice for looks but, do not use it! I don't know about the gas in Europe, but the gas in the states will eat it. Bottom tank is the most common tank. Steel on the inside with a rubber coating on the out side that is supposed to seal punctures in the steel tank.

Just looking at the pictures again I see the top tank has a different kind of cap. I do not know if that is original or something made after the war. Both tanks should use the same gas cap.

Hope that helps,

Steve

The good....you have a halftrack project!

The bad....it's time consuming and a burden on your wallet.

The ugly....sometimes it's worse than you think!

My frame was compromised from rust as well.  Had to get a donor frame to ensure the rest of the project had a sound foundation.  Check it closely and if you don't think it's sound, reinforce it or replace it.  Think of the weight of these things.

WOW! :o That's one stripped down frame. That's the farthest I've seen one taken down to. You will need to cross measure certain points on your frame when putting it back together to make sure everything is square. We did this to Don's frame when splicing it back together.

Dave has had a serious medical condition so has not been contactable for a while.

No, he does not have a website.......yet.

These photos he sent to me when I was ordering some parts from him.

You will need to contact him via email.

The majority of Dave's parts are NOS and he still has a large range of parts that some of the other dealers do not have, that why I use him for the hard to get parts.

He's a great guy to deal with.

There would be a hose that goes from that grease zerk to the throw out bearing so you wouldn't have to pull the inspection cover to grease the throw out bearing.

Hi Prestone,
Your halftrack is coming along great! Here is a photo of the flex line inside of the bell housing. When we pulled Don's transmission it wasn't even connected hence the grease everywhere. The other end should connect to the bottom of the throwout bearing.

Hey Don

It is the quality of the work realized on Zelda that gave me the desire to restore the M2
Many followed your work on Zelda and the result was surprising
It is enough to see the number of members pushing the detail very far on their halftrack

I think for several you have been "the example" :)

Thank you for the compliments,

The paint standardizes and allows to see all the small details, it is really nice to see the chassis in this state.
Compared to the CCKW GMC, it is precisely to find all the smallest accessories the most difficult and yet that is all the difference.

Exactly, it's time to return it, maybe this weekend

You have LOT of luck in the states, you have plenty of halftrack parts, here everything has been scrapped.

When I look at the parts available in sales in the United States, it makes you want to buy, unfortunately the transport costs stopped immediately envy.

Need information about the idler ..

Is it normal to have lateral play on the axes ?? About 1/8 "

Or do you need a shim ?
What tolerance have you on your Halftrack ?

IMO, That is too much slop. You want it as tight as you can get it without binding. Other wise the whole hub will be working back and forth.

A small part to change, the rehostat of the electric brake, have has as much work as on a big piece

At first, say presentable

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn58.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1152)

At the end of dismantling. . . there's work

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn57.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1151)

Beginning of the dismantling of the box lid, having served longer ant shelter than oil mixer

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn55.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1148)

The spiders went through there

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn53.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1145)

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn56.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1150)

And there are the snails, and we will dare say that we do not have green vehicles

(https://i11.servimg.com/u/f11/15/66/68/21/thumbn54.jpg) (https://servimg.com/view/15666821/1147)

Courage on it

I believe the oil filter housing would be:
 If short DeLuxe - Red
If tall Mil Senior - Black
If engine has been government rebuilt most likely no matter what style it would be green with a red dot applied to the lid.

I do have decals for all White DT ACC half-tracs  (coolant, air and oil filter) except the short DeLuxe those are in the works.
