I'm using a similar lock that works great. I bought 20 or so of these locks to convert. If interested I can dig one out and convert for you for $25. The tab is different in the photo you have than what I use. Mine works great. Will try to get photos posted in a day or so.

 Someone installed a lock similar to the one in the link, on my scout car. When I get back home I will have to check it out . I bought two locks like the one in the link at Lowes, but I have not had time to install them. Gonna try and do that this week. I have two of the original locks, one just turns all the way around, and the other someone broke a key off in it.

Ya'll do know they sell those locks at Home Depot and Lowe's stores for less than $5 right? I use them all the time on antique gas pumps that I've restored. They work just fine.

the original keys where made by briggs and stratton.
im going to buy an original key on ebay, they have some blanks made by briggs.
either that or buy used key and just take the tumblers out of the new lock.

Steve-O,
I stripped parts out of a new door lock I had for an older Freightliner truck as they used briggs and stratton locks. Key fit in the original lock fine, then I just swapped out the tumblers, and tada!!! Works like a charm.
