im getting back into working on my halftracks.
for the past 2 months i have been working on this m16A2 halftrack.
when i started it had a good frame and the original data plate but thats about it. someone had removed all the rear suspension and put a truck axle in the back.
so far i have changed the front diff, rear diff, rear cross members, all the rear running gear, engine and trans.
i started it for the first time today.

im working on this halftrack full time and then some.
i have all the armor cut out and drilled, most of the connectors.
now im working on the rear bumper/pannel.
it helps that i have a complete fabrication shop. shear, press brake, mill, lathe, ironworker.
torque posted some fabrication pics and i realized that that kind of stuff interests me most so here are some of mine.

Looking good Steve. At the rate your going you will have it done in no time!
-
Having the large tooling dose make things a bit easier to deal with I'm sure.
-
Steve-O, you sure that bench is heavy enough for the job... those I beam legs and little thin top look a little flimsy...
You are right, we all need to live closer together...I do like building stuff, wish I had some of your tools.
-
ya that table is heavy duty. its 5 foot by 12 foot by 3" thick. 7000 pounds.
it was a press plate used to make the formica counter top material.
-
I bet you could set the M16 on the table and work on it with no problems...
-
im ready to start putting stuff back together. ;D
i finished reproducing the rear floor and a bunch of other parts
everything you see in the pics is reproduction.

Steve,
It's looking fantastic!! So, your going to start pumping out all those M16's you have? ;) Just kidding... You are doing a great job on your M16A2. Keep up the good work!
Steve A.

Looks good! Bet you didn't do all that "quick a minute".
Steve
-
Beautiful work Steve. I believe you could make a quad mount if you wanted to.
-
thanks for the replies

Steve
you have that right.
i forgot how much time it takes to make accurate reproductions
Beautiful work Steve. I believe you could make a quad mount if you wanted to.

nice job on the fuel tanks. what type of coating did you spray on the exterior of the tanks? DW
-
Yes….nice job Steve. Glad to see you finish up that project…they look fantastic!
-Tom
-
thanks
i used rustolium flat black paint.
-
Those tanks look real good. Would you be interested in building another set to sell?
Layne
-
they are pricy
$1500 each and that does not include sanding down the welds on the ends of the tanks if you wanted that.
-
Steve, would be interested in speaking to you direct. See my post about an M16A2 project the Camp Roberts Historical Museum is working on-again.
I'm throwing in a few pictures of Fred Lange's, Santa Maria, Ca., M16A2. Is fully restored. Fred is about 70 miles south of here in the Central Coast.
-
i pulled it out yesterday to show some friends.
-
Steve,
Bringing it to Tower Park?
-
i don't think so.
its more weight than i like to haul on my trailer. also i don't have a camping spot.
are you bringing yours?
-
Not this year. Too much going on. I'll be there on Friday though.
-
Steve .. I know its an old post, but was wondering if your USA number was stamped into the passenger side of your front bumper and if so, what was the number? BM stamped all their A2 rebuilds .. did you ever fab up a Maxson F turret for the track? Was there a square hole cut out of the floor for conduit and radio wires to run to a slipring where your turret ring went?
Thanks,
Mark
