Title: They have arrived! .... Mud Scrapers
Post by: Outsider on April 22, 2014, 03:18:33 PM
I am working on repro'ing the mud scrapers and am trying to find pictures or any other info on them. I have a some original mud scrapers that I borrowed, but I don't think it is a complete set. I think I may have 2 of the same side of the rear scrapers, and I am especially wanting to find out exactly how they are mounted on the frame.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,     I had a m2 with mud scrapers on it. I thought someone put them on when the track was used as a crane. But it was sort of strange because the scrapers had part numbers on them. There were brackets welded to the frame that sort of looked like stake pockets. They were welded with stainless steel, because a torch would not cut the welds. also the welds were pretty crappy. There was a heavy flat iron with a 90 degree bend bolted to the stake pocket. There were heavy cutting edges bolted to the flat iron with slotted holes. There were 2 cutting edge pieces about 5 inches wide and they were reversable. These were positioned so each one would scrape the mud from the flat part of the driving wheel. I cut them off and threw them out (oops). I will look to see if I have any pictures of them.     Henry

These are some pics of the scraper brackets that were welded to my M2. There is a part no. on the back side of the piece. on the face of the bracket around the holes you can see the outline of the arm that held the blades. The top corner to corner measures 13 inches. The other side was a mirror of this one. If this is what you are looking for I can get measurements. I think they were on the front to keep the mud from building up and lifting the track off the drive sprocket.  I will keep looking for the rest of the parts but I think they are gone. If I can find pics before I removed them I will post them.    Henry

Thanks those pictures helped a lot. I have the piece that mounts to the bracket, but only had part of the bracket where it was cut off the frame.

Steve-O, can you get me the dimensions off the mounting bracket for the front ones. Once I get those I should have a set done for my ht.

Thanks,
Steve

i started to measure it up and then realized that if you are like me you would want to be sure of the measurements.
so here are pics of the measurements.  ;)

I know that mfggunner1 on the G503 site has several of these on his tracks for sale. He is the one that has the M16 on Government Liquidations. I got my winch bumper from him several years back. Just thought I would mention that if someone was looking for parts.

Did the last style mount to the rear idler?

Yes, that is the rear one that mounts to the idler casting.

Title: Been working on my new scrapers!
Post by: Outsider on December 18, 2014, 11:33:25 AM
Here is where I'm at so far.

Put the three mounting holes in upside down on the front mounting plate. So that will be a rework on it, but coming along.

Next thing to do is climb under the HT and bolt up these heavy monsters and see how they fit.

We'll I picked up a bunch of steel the other day. Gotta be at least 500# there.

Now to get all the hardware picked up and final fitting on my HT and they will be ready to go.

Steve

BTW, This is the only MV related project I have gotten any work done on this winter.

Title: Update on my Mud Scraper project
Post by: Outsider on January 23, 2016, 02:52:47 PM
Finally decided to work on my HT for a while instead of making parts for others, and part of that is getting the mud scraper project done.

Front scrapers are all fitted and done!

Rears are being more of a pain! I only have holes in my drivers side idler casting to mount the rears currently. I will replace the passenger side casting during this winters projects as it is worn out. Well the drivers side mounts holes didn't line up correctly and after measuring and remeasuring the parts I had made I couldn't figure out how it was screwed up. All the holes seemed to be in location and symmetrical. Then out of frustration I measured all the holes in the casting and found one of the holes to be out of location by about 1/16". I took out my replacement passenger side casting and all the bolts dropped right into location. So on to the mill and relocate the out of location hole on both of the mounting pieces. Once that was done I mounted the pieces.

On the mounting pieces that run in front of the idler hubs the original pieces we had for it had two different bends. So the question was which one was messed up and which one was still correct? Well we went with the 90 deg bend. Guess what....that was the wrong one. So they go back to the fabricator on Monday to be over bent to match the correct one. Once they come back I should have everything ready to go.

Do you think these were originally intended for mud or ice/snow?
Title: Re: They have arrived! .... Mud Scrapers

Probably both. As any build up of foreign material on the hubs would add to the likelihood of the track being thrown off.

Well I finished the left rear ones on my HT today, and here are the pictures. Won't be doing the right rear anytime soon as I need to change out the idler casting to one that has the mounting holes. Alas, another project for another day.

More trival info:

Just the hardware kits weigh 18# each.

Metal parts for a mud scraper kit weighs 108#.

So total weight for one mud scraper kit is 124# with out any packaging!

Here is a pic of one kits parts:

Well, If you are interested in a kit it will cost you $2500 plus shipping. And No, Not much profit on these.
