Just realized I need to mount these things very soon and I have not cleaned them up yet. Do you guys rebuild them or just clean and paint and bolt back on? Are there NOS ones around?
-
There are probably NOS ones around, check with the parts dealers.
I am going to re-use mine as they still have good compression and retardation.
-
i would just paint and reinstall.
unless your going to do some serious off road like this girl ;D

Clean, paint and reinstall works for me. I hope I see someone mudding a halftrack amongst the modern stuff one of these days. :)

I just received a fuel pump kit from Then and Now Auto, they sent a flyer with the kit that shows they sell shock oil. Just another option, but I think most just paint and mount.

I know this is an old post but just thought I would pass this along. The type of shocks that a halftrack uses are called Houdaille rotary shock absorbers. I'm told if they are frozen they arwe not rebuildable. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I was recommended that if I needed some rebuilt to go to Apple Hydraulics in Calverton, NY. Here is their site:
