Actually, Steve McQueen sold the halftrack way before he passed. This is what I know about Fiji Fanny.
Steve McQueen had the halftrack. He would regularly take it on movie sets with him. He was doing a western, I can't remember which one. The saloon and other buildings were just fake fronts. But, the saloon was at the end of a "T" road. When filming was over, Steve bet someone that he could come full speed down the street make a hard left turn and slide right infront of the saloon and parallel park. Well, he didn't make the turn and went right through the saloon. He got a lot of ribbing for that stunt. So, he put the halftrack up for sale. This was about the mid 70's. Stan Langebeck (sp?) from Santa Maria bought the halftrack. It was advertised in the classifieds of the newspaper. Stan said he called and wanted to take a look at it. He had no idea who owned it util he got there. He bought the halftrack. Stan found an old 3 axle Peterbuilt and lowbed. That is what he used to transport it around. I first saw this halftrack at the Pismo meet in 1978. That is when Stan told me the story on how he bought it. Von Dutch did some work on it for Steve. There was a spotlight that was added in the center of the front windshield and there was a data plate in the middle of the dash stating that it was restored or customized by Von Dutch. About 1980, Stan wanted to sell it. I tried to get my dad to buy it. He wouldn't go for it. I also tried to get my dad to buy one of the Stuarts that SouthEastern was selling for 12.5K. Stan ended up selling the halftrack to a dentist that had a bunch of teenage sons. They are the ones that installed the quad mount and did a lot of work to put it back original. They left the name, Fiji Fanny, and the spotlight, becuase that is what Steve McQueen had done. The picture you saw was at For McArthur base in San Pedro in 1981. I know, I was there. I took 1st place with my 1943 Ford GPW and 2nd place with my 1/4 ton Willys trailer. I lost track of the halftrack after that.
