Hood gutters
«
on:
March 12, 2015, 08:01:54 AM »
I'm going to be making up a set of hood gutters for my new track. Is anyone else interested? I don't know what costs are yet as it was about 2 years ago when I made them before. Most of the cost will be getting the metal bent and a little labor to drill holes and weld the end. Not looking to get rich. I know I have one person that needs a set.

Mine didn't have those installed. We're these a rebuild mod? Besides the common sense factor, how critical are they?

Not all halftracks had them. My Autocar and one of my White's didn't have them and my other two White's did. If the track is stored in a dry place and not left out in the rain I don't see a need for them. With that said it still is a nice feature to have.

Tom, the rain will go through the seams on the hood. I suspect they had issues with the water getting on the ignition in the rain and this was probably an up grade. Just a guess. I know mine went through a rebuild in the 50's may have been added then. If the hood has been removed they may have been just left off.

I wonder if it was a White vs Autocar deviation?
Regardless, I like the idea. Even though mine won't be stored outside in the elements, it won't hurt to throw a set of these on when the hood goes back together. Count me in for a set.

My M2A1 has them, it was rebuilt in 45. They would be good to have even if you get caught in some rain. It looks like the distributor is in a good spot for the water to run onto.

Tom my track is a 1942 Diamond T and it had them. But like I say mine went through a rebuild in the 50's so it's hard to say.

Hi guys, I'm back at work after knee surgery, so it will take a little time to get a shipping quote. Soon as I figure out how to pack them and get the first set sent out I can get a better idea shipping quotes. I can't imagine it being to outrages, they are not that heavy. but are about 40" long. Looks like I may have to get some more metal bent. I only bent up 6 sets.

To those I sent shipping estimates to, looks like I was a little off on shipping estimates but should still be less then $20.00 except for you folks on the east cost. It was about $24.00 to Mass. My scale wasn't all that accurate. But now I know.
Thanks Don G.
