WTK: Shielded Ign System
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:38:31 PM »
Besides the Distributor, Spark Plug Wires, Coil, Regulator and Spark Plug Covers, are there any other parts to the shielded system?

How hard is it to find the shielded parts?  I see that GH has the coil, distributor, regulator and one or two other items, the items I'm not sure how hard to find are the following.
1) spark plug covers and shields
2) spark plug wires
3) Distributor cover the wires attach to.

I'm thinking about converting my M16 to the shielded system, or is it even worth the hassle?

THanks
Jason

The components for the shielded ignition system are getting hard to find and pricy. Their are also shielded cables to the generator from the coil box. They eventually did away with the shielded set up due to difficulty to maintain and went with special plug wires with resistors built into the ends. Also, condensers were places on every electrical item. Hope this helps.

Besides the items Steve has mentioned there are a series of ground straps and internal/external tooth lock washers. The straps bond the hood assembly to the motor.

That's right, there are additional bonding straps, star washers and condensers mounted everywhere. I will be posting some more info on this later as I just opened up a NOS radio suppression kit. I listed what was necessary for the engine. Like I said before this set up was discontinued in favor of plug wires with resistors in the ends. This eliminated the need for the complicated shielding set up.
