Wire harness routing
« on: February 26, 2017, 07:36:07 AM »
Anyone have some pics of the wire harness routing for both sides of the frame. I have the rear harness running through the grommets in the frame just wondering where it clips into the frame. Also the right side of the frame harness and the front pedestal harness how does it transition from the frame to the  firewall by the screw terminals. Thanks

I believe these are from Steve A.'s. I can't remember whether I got them here or on G503 but if you can find the discussion there may be more pictures of what you want. I hope these ones help.

Those are my pictures alright. For the wiring going out to the headlights, Mine will be fender mounted so no threaded frame fitting but it is the same hole used. There are some great diagrams of frame wire routing and brake line routing in the M2 Halftrack Data Book. If you need any other photos let me know.

Thanks for the pics I've used those for the initial routing just needed how the front harness comes out of the frame and onto the firewall to secure with clips and where the clips are secured to the frame at certain points. If you have any pics that would be great steve.thank guys

I'd like to see where the harness is secured as soon as it leaves the terminal strip headed to the frame on its way to the front & rear. Is that the same info you're looking for Emptyhead? I'm in the process of rewiring and I'm at that point now. My existing harness was just hanging loose below the strip and I don't see any clues as to how or where it originally attached. Thank you guys.

I don't have many pics of the harness going down the frame but I can try to describe what I have. Here's a pic of the firewall, the harness uses the same straps all the way back.

You can't see it in these pics but there is a wiring loop mounted to the firewall floorboard just below the throttle linkage. It helps to hold the harness below the terminal block. There are 1/4" holes going down along the frame, there are also a few forward of the steering bracket on the frame. The harness was attached in most of these holes. The rear taillight/trailer harness went down the left side of the frame. it was attached with the loops using 1/4" bolts, you see these in Steves pics. There is a bracket just forward of the brake line junction block the harness was mounted to, it then continued forward of the motor mount and went to the junction block.

Hope this helps, The frame is a M2

That's what I was wondering. I didn't know if the wires went straight down from the terminal strip or forward along the oil px and vacuum lines before going down to the frame. It seems like I saw a picture of that configuration somewhere. When it stops raining I'll crawl down there and see if I can find where a loop would have lived below the throttle linkage. Thanks Gary. And thanks Emptyhead – I didn't mean to horn into your post!

I tossed this together to give you an idea how it is run on my ht. There is a bracket attached to the frame in front of the brake line junction block. There is a 7/16 hole in the frame. The bracket is made out of 1/8 x 1 flat stock. It has a 45 bend at the frame bolt hole. I will have to notch it out due to interferring with the way I bent the new brake line. The bracket stood straight up.

Mine has a similar bracket but it was holding the fuel line, not wiring. The bottom bolt is 1/2" where your guys' look like it's attached to the hole just forward of the brake tee and has a 3/8" bolt. Was there a bracket for both fuel and wiring?

My fuel line and wiring harness was attached to that same bracket, one on the front and one on the back side of the bracket. Interesting that your bracket is attached to the motor mount. My bracket has a 1/2" mounting hole that would fit there.
