Flexible oil pressure hose replacement?
« on: June 16, 2017, 03:25:36 PM »
I need to replace the steel braid-reinforced oil pressure hose that runs through the firewall to the gauge and I'm having trouble locating a modern replacement. I'd rather use an NOS hose but I thought it might be prone to leak due to its age, so I was looking for new reinforced hose that can be cut to length and use fittings similar to Aeroquip. I have plenty of those but they have 37 degree flares and so far I haven't been able to find them with 45 degree inverted automotive flares. The Aeroquip ones could be adapted with enough various fittings but I'd like to keep it more simple (like myself). What are you guys using? Any problems with the NOS hoses? Thanks in advance.

I've run Gary's braided hoses belt only for short period and they haven't leaked yet.

I think Gary still has both types of hoses for sale. Rod Shaver only has one type left. I took my NOS hoses from Gary to my brake line guy to see what he can do for a replacement. Braided lines are out unless adapters are used. I will post my findings later this week. In the meantime Gary has them and prices are reasonable.

I appreciate the info Steve. I thought about a flexible brake line as well. I've been sidetracked and haven't had time to dig into it but I would bet there's a 12” brake hose with standard inverted flare fittings on each end out there somewhere. I look forward to hearing what you find out from your guy.

I got the newly made hoses from my brake line guy. He said it wasn't easy but outcome was great. Cost is $50 for the set if anyone wants one, PM me. See photo below for comparison. The braided tubing is a little thicker than original copper lines.

I have no problem using Gary's NOS lines and for $17.50 a set that's cheap! Just my opinion.

Thanks for all the information Steve. I'd rather use NOS, my only reservation being if the hoses are checked from age. It sounds like they haven't been a problem though so I think I'll just get a set. Worst case, they won't last and then I'll be calling you for your brake guy's number!

I would never buy any parts from Gary especially 70 year old hoses

those look good steve.   originally they where covered with asphalt wire loom and taped.

something like this (not sure if this is the right size)
