Moving a non-running Halftrack
« on: July 21, 2017, 07:56:13 PM »
Some years ago when I sold some non running halftracks I needed a way to pull and push them. Pulling is simple but pushing can be a bit tricky. Then I remembered how large aircraft are pushed back from the terminal. Bingo, so I built an 8 foot push bar. It worked perfect pulling and pushing halftracks in and out of my shop and down the street onto a commercial flatbed truck. I also made up a clamp on pintel mount for a winch model front bumper. I used my running halftrack to push two others around. Using the same push bar I was able to move my halftrack around using my truck. I ended up making a shorted push bar, 4 foot, for doing short straight in/out movements from my shop as my parking lot isn't very deep.

Construction

The 8 foot push bar uses a 8 foot long 3 inch square tube 1/4 inch thick. On the ends of the tubing are 1/4 inch thick, 3 inch square plates welded on. The D rings are 5 inches wide and 6 inches long with a diameter of 1 inch.

The smaller 4 foot bar is built the same way except I used 4 inch square tubing. Why 4 inch square tubing, I guessed wrong when I picked up the material and foregot to measure the other, OPPS.

If interested in making one of these and can't find the D rings I can get them for you. They are $20.00 each and shipping would be $15.00.

Here are some photos.
