Location of Fire extinguishers on M2A1
« on: March 10, 2018, 01:29:42 PM »
Anyone know or have a suggestion where to mount this on my M2A1.  Since I installed the air filter that draws air from inside the cab, the normal location on the passenger side fire wall won't work.  Can I mount it alongside the drivers side?

Hi Pat,
My M2A1, until my rebuild, had its fire extinguisher in the original location mounted on the passenger side firewall. It fit right in the middle of where the later air cleaner comes through. On the air cleaner you can select where you want the air to be pulled from, engine compartment or inside under the dash for cold weather. I never had a problem with the fire extinguisher interfering with the air cleaner performance. I now have a later CO2 extinguisher mounted on the passenger door.

Pat,
Where did you end up mounting your FE?  Referencing David Doyle's Halftracks Vol.1, the 1 qt FE should be located right where Steve indicated...see page 180 and 189, while the CO2 is mounted on the passenger door.

On my M4A1 (basically same model as M2A1) it was on the location that Steve mentioned as well.
