Distributor shaft

There is a half-track on Facebook and the distributor is higher than most I have seen .
This is the second one I have seen the other is on a willirebuild track no rebuild tag on engine.
Just curious how many have the longer distributor shaft and how many are right next to block

I have an early engine,  from what I was told , with the longer spacer between the block and distributer . I believe it has the gears for the tach drive as well. Later today I can take a picture and post.

There were at least two different styles. I believe there was an early and a later style.  The early style was two pieces with one piece being the distributor and the second piece being the "spacer" that contained the tachometer drive.  The later style combined the tachometer drive into the distributor housing and the whole thing was a single piece.

At least, that's my understanding.

There are three styles of distributors. The early style has a mid section with a tachometer drive built in as the distributor does not. The distributor has a flange for the shielding can. The second type eliminated the mid section and has the tachometer drive built in to the distributor and has the flange for the shielded can. The third distributor is for when they eliminated the complicated shielded system in favor of an easier resistance system. this distributor has the tachometer drive but no flange as the can was no longer needed. this system was easier to maintain and made tuneups a breeze.

I was having the same problem with the pictures coming out sideways. If you go on G503, click on "My Photos" and click on the picture you want to post. On the right side there's a box that says "Photo Details". Up near the top it says "Edit Photo". If you click on that, you can rotate the picture CW or CCW and some other things. Make sure you click "Submit Changes" on the bottom of the page when you're done. It might still look on it's side in the gallery but when you copy & paste it on halftrackinfo it'll be right side up. I hope this helps.
