Bogie frame seal surfaces

Some of my bogie frames are pretty worn where the grease seal runs:





How bad do the surfaces have to get before the seals are compromised? Is there a fix, e.g. speed sleeves? Thanks!

Yes others on here have used the speedy sleeve method. I forget the number, I have a couple of them at home , so later tonight I can add it. Then you can replace the whole fitting, grind the welds and press the old one out then press and then weld in the new. At one time there were a bunch for sale on eBay, or if your handy with a lathe cut some new ones
yourself.

I just built them up with JB weld. Was easy to do and worked well. If you are using leather seals they are very forgiving.

Thank you guys for the help. I’ll get the rest of them cleaned up and go from there. If they don’t get any worse, and after I get them all cleaned and shined up, if the seal feels right maybe I’ll just run them. If not, I’ll look into the other remedies you guys posted. I appreciate your help!

So this was how the military repaired them. This what I found when I pulled my suspension down

Wear sleeve in part number # 99187  fits shaft diameter from 1.872 to 1.878
