Top speed and RPM
«

I have read that 45 mph is the top speed of a “White HT”. I opened mine up on a flat dirt road today and got it up to 33 mph according to the old speedometer. It was at 3000 rpm according to a modern cheap tach. Does this seem right ? The engine is a fresh rebuild and seems to run fine.

Mine was 35 MPH and I had to check with my buddy who has had his HT a long time. He said that was his top speed too. Going down a hill he said he reached 38 MPH.
I had heard 45 also.

I figured it out. The “economize” valve in the carburetor needed changing. Dramatic difference.

Did you clean yours up or put in a new one? If you put in a new one where did you find it?

43 on a long straight run at sea level. From cold startup, it picks up about 5 MPH in top speed after the tracks get warm. Tracks suck up a lot of power and they limber up as they get warm. Seems to have a sweet spot at 28 MPH. Everything clacking and buzzing along comfortably.

That’s about right 30 seems the sweet spot for mine.

UP DATE:
I can hit 45 easy, but chicken out at 40 mph. The trick was:
New engine broke in at around 100 miles.
Tightened up carb screws and replaced economize valve.
New battery. Had to jump start with old one.
Tracks loosened up I think.
K&N air filter. Original was shot.

Update: My motor has loosened up, Iv gotten braver, and once the tracks warm up (10 miles) I can hit 50 mph when I’m not paying attention.

My top speed was 42 MPH without too much tinkering with the carb. Im sure if I worked more on the mix ratio it could ab alittle higher but who needs to go that fast? Just adds more wear and tear on the halftrack.

If you want speed and a MV...
You're gonna need to loose the tires/tracks and get some wings!!!
