Halftrack top and seat cushions canvas
« on: October 17, 2019, 11:10:37 AM »
Ok so this is the material Beachwood is using for their canvas.
Tops and Tarps: Olive Drab 18-20 oz mildew and water resistant
Seats and cushions: Olive Drab 14-16 oz mildew and water resistant

Just the kit for the top canvas for my M2 would cost $2000 unassembled and uncut, just the materials for self assembly.   Theres no way it should cost that much.

Just the fabric alone is $53 a yard from them.

So, I looked for a better option. So I found a place in Chicago called Chicago canvas who has the same material for $9.95 A yard for a 72" wide.

I ordered a sample of the 16oz and 18oz. Ill let you all know how it looks and feels when I get it.

I had my seats built by this outfit. Small one man operation. He built them off an original I sent. I was very please with the work and the price.

Ok, the first set of canvas samples never got sent. Here is the color of the canvas I got from Chicago canvas supply. It is next to 33070 Olive drab paint. The canvas is alittle dark for me. Thoughts?

I got the same stuff for my seat backs. I wasn't too worried about the shade, or even if they all match - some of my covers are NOS and they're slightly different shades from each other. Different material lots, I suppose. It's just a matter of personal preference, I guess.

wash the samples a few times and allow them to sit out in the sun for a while and see if that doesn't lighten it a bit.  For 5X the cost, you can let it fade until you get the desired color, then keep indoors..... just a thought.

Well, I decided on khaki instead of olive drab because being a 1941 model, it would be most accurate. The shade is a little off from what I anticipated but its a little late now. Cost was super reasonable.  $8.25 a yard (10 yards), treated 1/2" plywood $25, cushion material free!! (From a free couch found locally). Total invested was only $108  with left over wood and canvas. I cut the cushions using a electric meat knife. It worked great!

Looks good! Can you show a photo of the bottom of how you folded and attached the fabric to the plywood?
