Making M2 armor
« on: January 04, 2020, 08:15:39 PM »
After not having any luck finding the armor I needed, I’m grateful for all the drawings provided by Tim Sutter and found on the forum under “m2/m2A1 rear armor and bed”, "M2 rear armor drawings". With more people having to fabricate their armor and not having a nearby half-track to measure, I thought I should mention what I found while making my own M-2 upper rear panel, H-50. I think there’s a couple more small discrepancies on the drawing for Piece 5: Holes 3 and 16 should be at about the same level as the footman loops, which are at 8”, not 7-1/8”. This became evident when I marked the top holes for the grab handles, which are at 7” and slightly inboard from the armor bolts. Also, end holes 4 and 15 should be at 13-3/4”, not 13-7/8” like the rest of the bolts along the bottom. This is confirmed by the holes in my original corner angle iron, and the panel below this one has the same configuration of the two end bolts being 1/8” farther from the edge than the rest of the row. I’m trying to make this as close to the original as possible and if I have any of that wrong, I hope someone will correct me. Thanks.

Jon

Wow!  I can't offer any opinions or corrections on your measurements since we don't have any rear armor; however, I just wanted to thank you for your work that you've done.  This is great for others that will have to fabricate their own armor!

You're welcome Corey. I was hoping it would help someone else. Your half-track is looking great!

Worked on the drawings a bit.
Think I captured all the updates.
Thanks to all who have worked on these!!!

Let me know if you see any mistakes.

NOTE - Issues with holes 13,14,15,16 on plate #7 when using rear steps.
Will update drawings asap.

Thanks,
Keith

Wow, these are so much easier to read now! Excellent job! I noticed on plate #5 that holes 27-30 may be off by a 0.0625" . All the other rail mounting points have 1.75" between the holes. With the dimensions given the center set on this plate would be 1.875". Dose any one know if that is right or is my dyslexia mixing things up?

YES...please let me know if any changes are needed.
I had a set of plates made by these measurements and they worked.
But that doesn't mean they are "correct".
13,14,15,16 on plate 7 are off a bit when using steps.
