clutch reassembly
« on: March 31, 2020, 07:48:08 AM »
after the clutch is reassembled the manual states to use a tool to measure the distance between the pressuure ring and the flywheel spring plate.  The tool is an L shaped piece of some set distance.  Does anyone know what that distance is?  Don't have that tool.

If you mean the final adjustment, TM 9-710 says no less than 3/8" and no more than 1/2" between the release bearing and the spring plate hub. Set the distance using the adjusting ring.

The Base Shop Data manual says to adjust the pressure plate and then check with tool no 909020.  I get about an inch and a half here but I don't have the tool.

I see what you're talking about in the Base Shop Data manual. In TM 9-1711 they give a measurement of 15/32" from the adjusting ring to the machined surface of the flywheel ring. After assembly this should get the pressure plate reasonably close to the height of Gauge 909020. I just did mine last week using the 15/32" dimension but then had to turn the adjusting ring out some to get enough clearance for the disk. I don't think that measurement is critical because once the assembly is installed, you'll probably be turning the ring in or out to properly adjust the clutch anyway.

I looked at  TM 9-1711 and I think the 3/8 their talking about is the blocks between the flywheel ring and the release bearing. I also thought I saw in one of the Forum sights that this is a miss print and should be 3/4 inch.  I have another halftrack that I am using for parts and I took the clutch out of that and I get about the same measurement of 1and a half inches.  Thanks it's nice to talk to someone about these problems.
