I simply ground a slot in it until the tension caused a crack along the length of the push and it popped off. Now I could pull the drum off.
Next was a bit of a surprise and I was a little confused. The bush I was expecting to find turned out to be a bush and a separate wear plate. Odd!!
Then I removed the gear and tried to remove the locking pin. It wouldn’t budge. So I heated the flange and about an inch of pin fell out???
Confused I realised the end had sheared of so tried to push the other side out. It was very solid so I sat back and had a think. I then realised the flange wasn’t ware it was supposed to be, so I spent a half hour tapping back about 5/16” and could now see in the pin hole, the sheared pin in the shaft, it dropped out with a light tap.
So it’s all apart but I’ve learnt that having the wrong end bracket causes a whole world of hurt and it’s not good for the winch. I now understand where all the brass/bronze shavings in the bottom of the sump came from!
Photos are of the pin in 3 pieces and the inner bush in 2. The drive gear has moved outwards exposing the 2 locking keys and these have cut away the bush until it has separated.
