Brake drum and hub spliting
« on: November 29, 2023, 02:34:16 PM »
Has anyone split the rear brake drum from the hub? I guess the nuts need removing from the back of the sprocket studs? I hope that by doing that, I can remove the dust shield and make a replacement.

Yep. that is how it works. Pull the back nuts and it you are lucky they won't be rusted together.

Thanks Steve, I borrowed a good quality impact wrench and got the nuts off in no time. A couple of good hits on the drum and they separated quite easily. The shield needed a bit of work but I’ve got it off. I thought I may be able to make one, but now I think it may be a bit more complex than I thought. I think it must be a compression fit on the drum so needs to be an exact fit.
