Radiator X brace
« on: November 05, 2010, 04:18:50 PM »
Did all halftracks have the X brace in front of the radiator? I had been told Whites did not have the brace, only Autocars and Diamond T. My White M2A1 has the mounting holes for the brace on the frame cross member forward of the rad. I picked up a brace awhile ago and about ready to install the front armor.

Thanks, Karl

HI karl, my 1943 diamond T does not have an x brace but the engine was overhauled in 1955 so may have been removed during the refit.

Ok, I'm ready to install the X brace. The lower attachment to the frame cross member is easy, but how does it attach at the top? It would appear the bolts at the top of the front facing radiator armor on either side of the louvers aligns with the X brace. Does it use an extra long armor screw?

Thanks for any help.

it uses an extra long screw. her are pics of both styles.
you will need the linkage with the wider flat bar and cutout.

Thanks Steve for the pictures, I had fiqured out that a long screws was needed. I noticed a detail in your pictures, the frame around the front radiator armor. I don't have this on either of my parts HT

if yours doesn't have the cutout and no holes where the X brace mounts on the bottom then yours never had one. there where a few different styles that where used. the first one in the pic used a single bolt on each corner of top louver brace area. i think this was changed in most halftracks, i only have parts from one of that style. you can see in the pic that it is upside down and still mounted to the front of the hood, second piece from the pallet up.

the ones that used a cross brace also had the heavy duty pieces under the pedestal headlights that mounted the armor to the frame.
KC unless you have the first style i mention i think you will need the corner braces you mention.

this info is based off the halftracks i have here so if you have more info to add, post it.
