Hi Steve, Actually the floor screws are 1/4" 14 pitch thread. They are very hard to find without having a washer formed into the head. I got lucky and found a place that had some of the original style a couple of years ago so I bought all of them they had, and haven't found any more since.

thanks outsider
the original u-nuts i have are marked 14z. i compared original screws to some #14 screws at the local hardware store and they looked like a match but i didn't actually try them so i will do that and adjust the post. i also haven't been able to find them without the washered head.

it was hard to find u-nuts with a deep throat. try looking up "deep throat nut " on google  ;D

here are some 1/4" 14 threads per inch but they have that washer.

Here is a picture of the screws from Mcmaster-Carr. I bought 100 of these before I found the ones I am using now. If anyone wants these from Mcmaster-Carr I will sell them cheap! $10.00 for what I believe is still 100 of them plus shipping.

here are some unwashered screws.
these don't have the screwdriver slot but some of the originals did not have the slot.

1/4" x 14 threads per inch  3/4" long
http://www.imperialsupplies.com/item/0664102

http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=0139489

#14 x 1" long screw
i think #14 and 1/4" screws are close enough to be interchangeable but i still need to verify this.
here is a no washer screw with the slot in size #14    1" inch long. after trimming the tip of the screw with your sander you will be perty close to the 3/4" originals.

here is one in stainless . they dont show the head style so i dont know if it has the indented head. no slot though.
manufacturer Elco part #HFTH600
you have to order 2500 of them on this link

I found a good replacement for u nuts. I run a Polaris dealership and found them in my parts bins.  The Polaris part number is 7670145 and can be sourced at any Polaris dealer.

Anyone try these Polaris U nuts? The best price I can find is $2.34 each. http://www.adeptpowersports.com/oem-parts/polaris-nut-u-type-7670145-part.html

Also looking for screws that will work. The pointy sheet metal #14 screws seem to have a smaller shank diameter and are about 9 threads per inch, that allows the screw to slip through the clip. Thinking these may be OK https://www.mcmaster.com/93880A313

I don't care they are not exact style, I got way more obvious flaws.....

Since the 1/4-14 correct looking screws are basically unobtainable i opted for 1/4-20 as i only really cared what the head looks like.
 https://www.ebay.com/itm/STAINLESS-STEEL-SLOTTED-HEX-HEAD-MACHINE-SCREW-1-4-20-X-3-4-100-COUNT-NEW-BOX/233107789399?hash=item36464e9657:g:n-EAAOSwfqJcSfFw:sc:USPSPriority!19962!US!-1

Also the Polaris unuts are in 1/4-20 thread so they will work well.

An honestly since more than likely noones going to be crawling under critiquing our rigs standard unuts in 1/4-20 are very easy to find cheap in bulk other than 2-3.00 each. How many are even on the floors all together
