Thanks where is yours?  Some guys at work said they saw one outside near the oakdale in wallingford.  I have her all taken apart now, motor out, pulling the front axle.  Will be back together by spring.  Its an m2 but im going to make it an m2a1 over time.  I will post a few pics of the progress once i figure out how to do it.

I am not sure about the one in wallingford, but  there is one near the Chesire/Hamden line. Are you going to do any work to the motor? My halftrack is currently in pieces also, its currently in southbury.

Yes it ran when i got it but was low on power.  It had poor compression all around so i pulled out and stripped it down to a short block.  I dropped it off at a machine shop and im waiting to hear back from him as to what needs to be redone.  If its too bad i will look into one of those rebuilt ones.  While its out im cleaning up and painting all the stuff in the engine compartment.  Also pulling the front axle as the seam between the two halves is leaking, and generally tidying things up.  Should be back together for spring.  I keep it in Bloomfield.

I probably could have gotten by with the engine I had.  Here's the final compression readings after getting all the valves unstuck:  (1) 95 (2) 105 (3) 100 (4) 97 (5) 90 (6) 100...the spec is 120.
But, I decided since I was going to tear it down to the frame and build it back up, I might as well get a new engine as the cost of the rebuild would have been up there.
Gary H. used to have them for $2500, but he has gone up to $4500 PLUS you have to turn in your old engine for a core.  That didn't sound appealing to me.  I ended up getting one in a crate from Dave Pojta at Liberty Engineering Services in England for $3650.  With shipping, export/import fees, etc, it needed up running me around $4900, but I got to keep my old engine for future projects or to sell, and the shipping and fees covered some other parts that I got at the same time...radiator and 4 new bogie crab assemblies/16 bogies.  You might want to give him a try if your rebuild option doesn't pan out.

i have bought a few things from liberty so i will give him a try once i know what its going to take to get mine rebuilt.  I kind of like the idea of having a spare motor.
My compression was like 90 30 30 60 60 90 so im surprised it made any power at all.  Cant wait to see what its like at full power.

Nice looking halftrack, I've got my engien and tranny in getting rebuilt, sounds like I ma have to have mine sleeved. hopefully won't hurt too bad!

I plan on taking the head off mine in the next month to take a look. My compression was fine as was the oil pressure, but it was smoking a lot. I ran it and soaked the cylinders with some marvel mystery oil and that didn't help. I am assuming possibly a broken or stuck oil ring.

so the verdict is in, rebore all cylinders to 40 over, grind crank 20/20 replace 3 exhaust valves and one lifter.
Will be ordering from parts from Gary as Dave at Liberty has no more engines, Gary has one for 6,500, and the ones overseas are going to be 6000 with the currency exchange and shipping.  Kind of liked the idea of a complete new engine with clutch generator carb etc but too much $$$$.
