Need information about the idler ..
Is it normal to have lateral play on the axes ?? About 1/8 "
Or do you need a shim ?
What tolerance have you on your Halftrack ?

IMO, That is too much slop. You want it as tight as you can get it without binding. Other wise the whole hub will be working back and forth.
