M2 armor fit
« on: March 24, 2013, 06:05:06 PM »
The frame on this M2 was cut and welded and wondered if it is right. The lower center rear armor is 1 1/2" past the end of the frame, is this about right? Thought it should be about even. What size is the angle that supports the lower center rear armor? Thanks

Check the measurement between the output flange of the tranny and the input shaft of the rear diff, that is a good place to star!

That's a good idea but this one had the rear foot of the frame replaced because it was mangled from pushing it around with a dozer. I found a good picture of an M2 and the rear armor was 1/2" past the rear bracket, mine is 1 1/2" past, armor almost hits the pintle when it's open. I have compared the distance between rivets, crossmembers and everything I can think of to another machine and can't figure out what is off.

Figured it out! This is a Diamond T M3 with a White M2 rear frame piece welded on to make an M2. The length from the rear cross member to the rear drive axle is exactly right and from the front cab mount to the front of the frame is also right on. But the frame length from the rear drive axle to the front cab mount is an inch shorter on this M3 than the White M2 I took the rear piece from. Nether of these tracks have had the frames cut or welded in this area. Don't know if it's a Diamond T thing or an M3 deal but the mystery is solved.

If it's Diamond T M3 you will have double frame rails (frame within a frame)Post some pictures, I'm trying to visualize what you saying,
