reproduction white style armor nuts
« on: April 26, 2014, 04:32:50 AM »
im going to be reproducing the white style nuts.

these are exactly like the originals
they are crimped just like the originals so you dont need any thread locker.

it will be a few months (or more) before they are available because i am still spending all my time on my new m16a2 restoration.

i finally nailed down the crimp style so that the collar on the nut stays flat and doesn't bulge up a few hundredths when crimped.

pics of my reproduction nuts are posted bellow. i sandblasted both the original and my repo nuts so you can compare better.

---------------im going to lump this in here----------------
also if you are on a budget, you may be interested in the following.
one of my halftracks uses flex lock nuts on about half of all the armor screws. this is original
here is a pic of of an original flexlock and the ones available today

here are some for sale 3/8-24

you could also save some money by using 3/8-16 armor screws and 3/8-16 flex nuts.
the head diameter on the 3/8-16 screws is usually about 1/16" smaller in diameter so you will need to countersink your armor to match these screws or send a screw sample to your armor maker.
these are available at lots of places.

If there is interest I would pursue this, would sell for around ..60 cents each plus shipping, would need to move 25,000 of them.    http://halftrackinfo.com/index.php?topic=1194.0
