i found one of those in a barn once. happy days :)
a few months ago someone tried to sell one on ebay but it didnt sell, i forget what he was asking for it though. if you list it on ebay feel free to add something to the listing like "for more information on restoring halftracks go to www.halftackinfo.com" we got a few new members when i did that on the last halftrack i put on there.
sorry i couldn't help on the price. where are you located?

Hi Steve-O
I'm looking at purchasing an m2a1 and the seller has the crate engine with it. I'm just trying to figure out pricing so i know if I'm paying too much for it. On rebuilding these engines, are parts still available for them easily?

parts are still available through some of the halftrack parts suppliers. i bought a few complete gasket sets from tanks to go for $75 each a while back. im working on finding sources other than them though. these engines where also used in white trucks so there should be something out there.

I think the going rate is around $4,500 from the two big suppliers....and you have to provide your old engine as a core return.

I bought a factory rebuild from a guy in England last year for $3,600 and got to keep my old engine (which runs) to work on later.

Thanks guys. Has anyone ever upgraded the engine to a late model v8 ? Just curious as there would be more power etc. I know, blasphemy.

a cummins turbo diesel would work better and also fit better. it is also an inline 6cyl. there was one on ebay a few years ago with that conversion.

We have a M2A1 with a AMC 360 V8 in it. It also had the Tranny and T case replaced. I will say that she has the sound of a early 70's muscle car. As for speed? well you are still limited by the front and rear gear ratio. As we don't have a working speedo, not sure what she gets up to.
The halftrack came this way , and we are gonig to be putting an orginal 160 and tranny/tcase back in. This config now leaves us with NO hand brake. So if we lose brakes...downshift quick !
