Title: Tulsa winch WW2...
Post by: Halbketten-Fan on June 04, 2015, 04:51:22 AM
Hi @all!

That's my first visit to this nice community and I'm very happy that I found this place at the world wide web. A lot of informations and pictures which can help my to start my project "Halftrack".

At the moment I try to get parts from everywhere in europe. During my search a guy from UK offered me this Tulsa winch. Now I need your advice. How much can I pay for it? Seller told me it's an original WW II Tulsa 18G (20.000 lbs) winch from a White M3 Halftrack. Axle gear is okay an filled with grease. Rope drum and the rest of the mechanism needs a little bit work (rost). I'm not sure with the price. His offer was 1.200 EUR...

 Thanks a lot.

That is the big question. It all depends on how rare thay are over their. I find them frequently for $3-400 each. I've purchased 3 or 4 over the years and haven't paid mor than that. That being said I do have to go through them to get them complete again but still not more than an additional $3-400 invested. Over in Europe is a different story as parts are not common over theie.

Hi Steve!

Yeah - that's the problem. The winches are really rare in Europe but I don't wanna pay "every" price. I'm not sure now what the best decision will be. Buy it know or hope to finde anotherone...:-/

Thank you to let me know which price you have payed. Now I'm able to compare...

Greetings

it looks very complete.

some of the items that are often missing or broken are the knob and linkage and the guard underneath.
it also looks like it includes the pto shaft.

one thing i would inspect closer is the little ding in the center of this pic.
sometimes when they overload these winches that left side mount is stressed and gets cracks in it.

it also looks like the front angle iron is bent but that can be fixed.
