Title: M35 wheel cylinders
Post by: beerman on February 11, 2016, 10:43:49 AM
I have a friend of mine that owns  a large surplus company that has a lot of the M35 and 5ton and up vehicles. I was going to get him to give me a price on the wheel cylinders.
I have read mixed results on if or not these will fit the halftrack front and rear axles. I have read that the hoses will not work, different style connection and pitch.

I am planning on tearing into the brakes on my vehicle. Wanted some opinions on this matter.

Thanks, and sorry if this has already been brought up before.

Front and rear wheel brake cylinders on the halftrack are different sizes. I believe all the m35 wheel cylinders are the same size. Fronts on a HT are 1 3/8". I don't remember off the top of my head the size of the rear ones.

The rears are 1 3/4" .   The front halftrack hose threads are 7/16 and the modern replacements are 1/2", not sure about the m35s.

Thanks, for the advice. One of my older halftracks has adpapters for the front brake cylinders , 1/2 to the 7/16 hoses. Pretty sure its a old repair as , this halftrack has not been used in a very, very long time. I will try and post a picture if anyone is interested. I have a lathe I bought about a year or so ago, still very , very slowly learning how to use it.

I would be interested in some pictures. I had my wheel cylinders sleeved and rebuilt, it's a lot of work to change the rear ones.

I read over the information several times, so the front wheel cylinders will swap out except for the hose part. Which military cylinder will fit on the rear of the halftrack ? There is a custom brake place near me that I will be bringing my old hose to next week to see what they can do, as far as ends.

Thanks

Be careful about having custom brake lines made. I had one made but found out the largest inside diameter hose they  were certified to make was 1/8th inch. the HT lines are 5/16th ID. They can put the correct fittings on but the ID was only 1/8" It caused so much back pressure it blew out the wheel cylinder. I think Kevin has the hoses. Just make sure of the iD.
