Title: Installing a AC T-2 Frame Fuel Filter and Upgrade to a Paper Element
Post by: steve1973 on June 18, 2016, 01:26:59 PM
I decided to mount my original style AC T-2 Fuel filter to the frame. I've had this filter for a while now and was restored by the person I got it from some years ago. I has the original brass plates as the filter element. Ron Fitzpatrick carries a conversion kit to a paper element so I decided to do that to. The filter itself is an add on to the halftrack. This was a field modification or depot upgrade. Only one of the four halftracks I've owned over the years had one. If you do not have one of these fitler assemblies and want one Ron Fitzpatrick sells them new ready to bolt on. First photo shows the filter assembly and upgrade filter kit.

Now with the fuel bowl removed you can see the original brass plate element.

Here is a comparison photo of the old and new elements side by side.

For the upgrade simply remove the old brass element and spring. Install the new spring and washer followed by new element. Install new gasket in upper housing and fuel bowl retaining bolt. Reassemble unit and you are done. Now to mount the filter assembly to the frame. Ive posted this info on another thread. The one thing I've noticed is the distance between the mounting holes on my filter are a little wider than what the instructions said, 3-3/4". Opps, I had to weld in one mounting hole and re drill. Make sure you measure this distance in the filter assembly befor you drill.

With the holes in the correct location you can now bolt in the filter.

That's all.

The Wix 33042 filter element also fits this application. I had to slightly trim the cover gasket but no big deal. Cross reference charts also show it to be a Fram CG5, Napa FIL3042 and Hastings GF12. The application is shown to be '58-'67 Chevrolet and GMC pickup. They run about $12- $14 at an auto parts store but I've seen these online for 6-8 bucks with free shipping.
