Title: Inter Back
Post by: OzPete on September 24, 2016, 09:32:30 PM
Yet another WTF moment in the restoration of Henrietta the halftrack. After 10 years & many thanks to the help I got from members on this site, I am the proud owner of a pile of rusty steel - i.e. the back floor sections for an International halftrack. Now, don't get me wrong, am very grateful to have them but WTF????  After much grinding & welding, decided to try the bottom skirt piece on the back of Henrietta - well - just to make sure. Also it provides some motivation after all the grinding & welding so I can see something is happening. But guess what??? It is too short! As I said before - WTF????????  There is no way it would fit so had to cut it down the middle & spread it about 5/16 of an inch. The bumperette bolt holes had to be enlarged slightly but that was no major drama. Does anyone have any idea at all as to why this is 5/16 too short??? Yes- no hole for pintle hook. Hole was badly rusted/gas axed/buggered so cut it out & put in a plate. AND why did they make the bumperettes out of armour plate & the skirt out of mild steel????

Pete, I think I see what's wrong. On my halftrack, that rear piece is set into the two frame channels not over the frame channels. Take a look at my pic. Is there a difference between m2's and m3's?

I wonder if the problem could be diferent tolerances between the manufacturers? When you cut and moved the parts out did it mess up the overall outside dimension? You got a lot of paitiance to take on a M5 rebuild! Best of luck with it!

Sad to say it, but I think monkeypirate is right. International was the most different between manufacturers of all halftracks. Their specs could be different which would mess up your whole build. You might want to find a different bumper to ensure it is correct.
