Title: Boggie Wheel New Tread Order
Post by: R.E.Co. on December 03, 2017, 07:44:23 PM
How many of you guys have boggie wheels you would like retreaded?  Ive been in contact with a gentleman who has a place where he get his done and is willing to put together an order for those interested.  The place actually uses black urethane and cuts them down to size, they also put a guarantee for there workmanship on them! So they should last forever and they look great! PM me if interested.

Also, any idea of the cost?

Thanks,

I'm interested but same as other responses.   Can you give a location for estimated shipping and of course it would depend on per part cost.  I could do as many as 24 depending on cost.

Also would like to know prep work required.  Do old wheels need rubber removed, sandblasted etc.

Thanks,
Brad

Cost will vary but it was last around $110 per wheel.  They would go to St. Louis MO. If interested, Ill forward you the guy who is doing it.  The more we get, the better deal we will receive for quantity.  From what I understand, no prep work needed.  They blast them before they get coated.

Has anyone else decided to get there wheels done? I'm trying to get enough people so we can get a better price.

I would get in on the order if it gets the price down. I would do 36 if you could get it to 75.00-100.00
Let me know,

Mike

I just got back from being gone for the past 6 months.  Good to be working on the track again! I had put it out there about getting the boggie wheels done and I am planning on shipping mine next week to get retreaded.  We get a nice group rate if everyone can come together and send their wheels in to get done.  Who else can get theirs done?

One thing about getting the treads done.  The company may tell me it will take them 3 months to do the work, but it will more likely be 3 weeks.  The last run of wheels that I did, one of the clients did not pay me for a couple of months and that was sitting on my credit card for time.  So I am asking for half at the start of the project and the rest when they are complete.

I found that for shipping freight, Fastenal has the best prices.  Get a quote from them from their 3rd Party Shipping Services.

Sent my wheels off this morning through Fastenal.  One thing to note with the Fastenal third party shipping, I had not used it before so I was not familiar with the rules.  I was told that anything that fits on a 48x48 pallet and weighs less than I believe 125lbs  has the same base price from where you are shipping.  The price goes up every 20 or 25lbs by $5.  I guesstimated my weight on the high side, in the end maybe by 100lbs.  The guy at the store said they don't verify weight, they go off what they are told.  I should have been on the low side and I could have saved a few bucks.  all in all not too bad, $205 from Michigan if anyone is wondering.  That's for 20 wheels crated.

I've used Fastenal's 3PL several times now and am very pleased. You can use any size pallet or crate. I've made my own pallets and crates in the past. My last shipment was 3500 pounds and was only $600 to ship. Shipping prices seem very reasonable each time.

Thinking about getting in on this. The wheels need to have all the old rubber stripped off before they are shipped then the rusty wheels get sandblasted at the retread shop, is that correct? I think I have a set ready to go just need to be sure how the process works.

No, just need to send them in!  Removing the old rubber and blasting is all included in what they do.

Brad and Rich,

I have 16 that I want to send and have a few questions:

1.  What's the shipping name and address?
2.  Did we get a firm price per wheel yet?
3.  Also, does Fastenal ship directly to this company?
4.  Is one of the members colleting money or do we send directly to the company?

Thanks!
Paul

Fastenal is a store to store shipper. They do not deliver to a address.

Dinadin on this site, AKA Rich, is handling the orders for this company.  PM him or PM me for his info.  The cost will be no more than $110 per wheel. The more people that can there's redone, we can get the price down to per wheel as little as $90. The shipping would go to Dinadin (Rich) and he handles the rest.

Sorry for the lack response on here.  I delivered 100 wheels to the shop a couple of weeks ago.  They did not give me a time frame, I will see about getting an estimate this week.  The guys said that they would jump on them right away.  As of right now I have two prices.  The first one is if you pay me before they are done and I don't have to pay for them with my credit card, it is $110 per wheel.  If have to pay for them with the credit is card it is a 4% convenience fee, which will make it $115.  These prices already include the taxes.  I already have one full set paid for and several sets half paid.  The shop told me that could give them to me in batches as they do them.  If that is case, I will send them out as the sets are paid for.  If you have any questions you can contact me directly.

Stupid question
I have NOS wheels already...when I change out the wheels, is the old wheels something I should save for someone to get covered? or are they enough out there just deep 6 them?

Frank,
Save the old bogies for cores to have recoated in the future. Or you can sell them.

Frank,

Like Mark said, keep them for yourself or sell them.  Unless they are broken or have been melted with a torch they can be retread.  Rust is not a big deal, it can be sandblasted off and the wheels will be fine.  Personally I would at least keep the old wheels for a while before getting rid of them, at least a few events.  This whole thing was started when I got NOS wheels from someone and they peeled off at the first event after only about 6 miles.   Back to your question of are there enough out there?  Probably so, but now that people know that they can be retread I think they will be less willing to part with them.  Also with the production of new tracks, two of the pieces that are harder to find substitutions are being replaced.  Which hopefully means more halftracks will be restored.

Got my bogie wheels back.  New tread looks great!  Final cost was higher than expected, $110 per wheel.  Shipping thru fastenal was $125 down there and $125 back.  Cant really complain about the shipping cost for something this heavy!  We'll see how these hold up, but others have had great luck thus far.

I am glad you guys like them and you are starting to get them back.  I have been meaning to ask you all about them.  I have one order to ship out, hopefully today.  I need to pick up another 16 and ship them out.

I have to say it took them about a month to do 100 wheels.  I also I am quite proud that my truck was able haul all 100 of them without a problem.

Rich,

Are you putting together a new order? I have a few I'd like to get done as well. And if so, what prep is required?

Thanks,

John

No prep required John! Unfortunately, it will require a significant volume to get done and it was hard to coordinate with other people getting the wheels to Rich. Rich could tell you better but hopefully this helps.

I will talk to them and find out what the minimum pricing is.  I have a feeling they are going with a flat rate on their pricing now.  In the past the minimum was 20 wheels and the price would drop for every additional 20.  I will find out.

Sorry for not being on here for a long time.  So far I have had two people contact me about getting bogie wheels redone.  I am planning on going to the MVPA convention this year.  If you can bring yours to the convention I can take them back with me, saving shipping.  Also I can bring one of my spares for people to look at.

So far I have been contacted by three people to get wheels retread.  I will contact the company to see what it will cost.

Also I spoke to soon about going to the convention this year.  In the past month I have had to spend a combined total of $3000 on my truck and daily driver.  That killed my convention money.

Hello all,

Sorry for the delay.  I just got an email back from the company on retreading the wheels.  It will be $120 per wheel for an order of at least 40 of them.  They also said it would take them at least 10 weeks.  I have heard that before, they said 3 months and it took them 3 weeks.  Although that was before the supply chains went to crap.  I would like 50% upfront, just incase they get done quicker than expected.  If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Again I am sorry for the delay on responding lately.  Work has gotten busy for me.

I prefer using Fastenal for shipping, it is relatively easy and convenient for me.  The wheels will need to secured on a pallet somehow.  I have tied them and screwed them to a pallet, but I really like it when there is a box made on the pallet.

My local Fastenal is:

I think they need my phone number, so message me if you need me information.

According to the website, Fastenal dose not ship between West and East coast at this time. Looks like they closed some hubs too.
