Title: 160AX-LI stamped tag
Post by: coreyelliott on May 15, 2018, 11:00:09 PM
As Shon and I continue working on our halftrack, we continue to find many things that we don't know anything about.  When we come across these things, I come here to get us set straight.

We noticed a tag that was stamped as 160AX-LI.  Is this a standard or does it have a different meaning, such as a rebuild or something?  I did a little google-fu and haven't come across anything.

I haven't seen that before. If it is a tag for the engine why is it on the bell housing? Very interesting. It may very well be some sort of rebuild tag. That's my guess.

I have two engines that have the same type of tag as well. I am in the same boat as you and others have no idea what they are there for.

I have the same tag on myM2a1, it went through a rebuild in 45.

Could be Roman numeral LI =51.   date 51

Corey,

I found the same tag on the engine that I pulled off my donor M16. Beside that tag it has a rebuilt plate which states that it was rebuilt in 4-51. So MFrance his explanation is at least plausible.

Thanks for updating this thread, this is stuff that's great to know.  And knowing is half the battle!

You're more than welcome! I like the idea that we have this group effort over here for years already to preserve as much information as we can!
