Title: Scout car transmission cover installation problem

I received a scout car with the transmission top cover removed and sitting loosely on the gears. It is complete and had the shift forks installed. I cannot get the transmission cover back on the transmission and get the 3 forks lined up with the notches on the gears in the case. What am I doing wrong? Is there a simple trick to this I am missing? I have read the technical manual but didn't exactly help much.

There is really no trick to it. Just have the cover and the transmission in neutral and make sure the grooves in the gears line up with the shift forks and it should set right on with a little wiggling. When you get close peek in with a flashlight to see if everything is lined up.
