Title: Old fuel cap removal
Post by: TBowman on October 05, 2019, 05:49:24 PM
Hi all,

Today, I spent some time trying to remove the driver side fuel tank's cap.  the vehicle has been sitting for 2+ years.  Are there any tricks to getting this thing to budge?

I tried spraying penetrator up into where threads are, tapping with a mallet around all sides, using a small pry par to try and rotate it (without breaking handle), even tried an oil filter wrench but no luck at all.

Thanks for any help.

Tim

That looks like the old rubber fuel cell .. did you have any luck gettig it off?  Worse case scenario is to use a cold chisel on the edge .. I know that sucks but you can always repair the cap or get a replacement.  Was just curious as my one tank had a cap on it and had been sitting for decades ..had to use a chisel and replaced it with a used cap I picked up tabs swap meet.
