Title: ignition switch

Would someone explain the halftrack ignition switch.  I am trying to get an old one out of the dash and the ring will screw out but I can't get the knob that turns the switch out.  The knob takes the place of a key.

There is a small hole on the lower right side that you push a pin into to release the face plate if i remember corectly.  It might have to be in a certain position to access the internal release.

Thanks, i found the hole but it doesn't seem to do anything.  I have a switch with the plate off, do you know if the key was different for each halftrack?

Halftrack did not have keys like most all vehicle. If yours has a keyed ignition then it is not original.

Pictures are always welcome. Most keyed ignitions are held in by either a threaded nut from the front or a spring lock. Push twords mounting hole, turn a bit and they pop out.

I am working on being able to post pictures.  If someone wants I can email them. What started this post is that I have several ignition switches.  When you unscrew the ring that holds them in the dash there is a cover with a lever on it that you would turn to engage the starter.  This plate covers the front of the switch and under everyone off them is a slot for a key, (these are original switches).  I can't figure out what holds these plates on, they come off even with the ring in place.

I’m pretty sure that my lever is integral with the barrel and can’t be separated.

Brit plumber is correct. The whole barrel will slide out with it.  There is a spring and pin the locks the barrel in. I thought it was actuated from the front but it might be located elsewhere on the lock assembly. Without having one in front of me i can't be certain. When you push a pin in the front can you feel a spring in either position? If so once in the position push firmly and try to rotate the tumbler past the stop.

Ok so im not 100% on this but i dont belive the face plates are supposed to come off the tumbler barrel. Some one has pried them off most likely. Standard build procedure would be to place the face plate on the tumbler and roll the back of the face plate around the edge of the barrel. Figure out what is holding the barrel in the lock and remove it then reinstall the face plates before installing the assembly.
